  1. Make it scalable

Would love to use this software with a summer camp full of elementary students. I'd need a way for all the students to have individual accounts but access to all the SAME documents. Then I'd only have to input the basic 50 reading materials I want, and create 120 user accounts. Rather than uploading 50 reading materials to each of the 120 accounts individually.

    • Use html lang for Chinese/Japanese font selection

      Hello,

      Thanks for your tool!

currently, LWT only displays the letters as they are. But for CJK scripts, it would be nice if the html lang option could be used. For example, span lang="zh_TW" or span lang="ja". The browser would then automatically choose the appropriate font, making the characters more legitable.

      See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_unification#Examples_of_language_dependent_characters as a reference.

      Thanks!

      • Have an "times listened to" counter

Maybe we can add a "times / hours listened to" counter with the time / hours a certain lesson was listened to.

        • Simple idea - a notepad for translations!

Is it posible to add a simple notepad? Just a text area on the right to paste full text translation in mother tongue. Could be useful if one wants to try translate a entire text.

          • Dictation

Add a test - dictation - where you here the recording and can type in the text. Afterward it can be compared to the original text.

It would be great as a preparation to be able to set time stamps for each sentence so the player can play a part and pause so you have time to write down the whole sentence (like with subtitles).

Right now I manually pause it and repeat the last 10 s if needed.

            • Browser Extensions!

First of all many thanks for this great project. I think there should be browser extensions, especially for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

I mean, when we surfing on the internet, we should be able to quickly add unknown words to the database just with double clicks etc. I think such a beautiful addon is would be nice. I don't have much experience but I think it should be, especially for Google Chrome.

              • Selecting terms according to a text tag...

                Hello,
In the [Terms] page there are many options to select to limit the terms that you want to be tested. Usually I select the [Text] eg Assimil NFWE Leçon 1 and then from multiaction [Select ALL Terms].

I have tagged each Assimil method with a different text tag eg. AssimilNFWE, AssimilUsingFrench.

I wonder if there is a possibility to add an option in [Terms] to select a specific text-tag that may provide the ability to test a specific amount of texts that corresponds to a certain level.

                Thank you,

                George

                • Different score for L1->L2 and L2->L1 testing...

I use the table testing feature to test L2 (known)->L1 (learning) and change the learning status if I have remembered correct or not. When I was reading the texts for the first time passively, I was also testing my ability to know the translation (L1->L2) and also changed the status if I have remembered correct or not.

I wonder if it would be useful to have 2 learning status. One for L1->L2 understanding and one for L2->L1 active recalling.

                  Thank you,

                  George

                  • Keyboard shortcut for selecting multiple characters (Japanese/Chinese)

                    Hi,

For languages that use "Make each character a word" eg Chinese/Japanese you currently have to click the first character in a word and then click the number of characters that follow it in a popup.

Is it possible to add a keyboard shortcut to select the number of words? It's a lot easier to use a keyboard shortcut and keep hitting enter to go to the next unknown word.

Also you can't ignore or mark a word as well known in the text window (it only ignores or marks the first character even if you have selected the word…

                    • Soundcloud Integration

I think it would be great to integrate Soundcloud within LWT. All audio could be hosted in the "Soundcloud". Right now the problem is, the soundcloud-link will not play the audio-file in LWT, but maybe it could be modified!?

                        • Introduce gettext for internationalizing LWT UI.

Do you have a plan to internationalize LWT UI with gettext? If you use gettext to output UI text and provide pot file, we can make localized LWT UI much easily only to make po or mo file for each languages.

                          • Start a document where you left off

I have some texts of such length or difficulty that I will not read all the way through in one sitting. I would like a text I open to start where I left it so that I don't have to always figure out just where I was. I feel you will likely start where you left off or at the beginning, but the beginning is trivial to locate if it defaults to last position.

                            • More dictionaries available in "LookUp Term: Dict1 Dict2 Dict3 Dict 4"

I use two dictionaries for my French studies. WordReference (French->English and SenseAgent (French->Greek) and GoogleTranslation (French->Greek). Although in 98% of the words this is the perfect combination there some cases where I use also google images to see some nouns (objects, food etc).

I wonder if it would be possible to have the choice of more than the existing dictionaries in the LookUp Term.

I just used the new "Improved Annotated Text" feature of LWT with my Assimil texts and it is very very very useful. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wonder if it would be possible to have the option to export the L1 sentences along with the L2 "Improved Annotated Text" translations to use them in ANKI.

The jPlayer that LWT uses seems to be 2.0.0 (Date: 20th December 2010).
There is a new version available at the jplayer site 2.2.0 (http://jplayer.org/)
Could we have the updated version included?

                                  • Type the word or phrase test and check if you have typed it correctly

When you test the term have the option (defined for all tests in settings) to type the term. Then the LWT could point with red color the parts of the term you got wrong and the rest green. Just like in Anki.

                                    • Make it possible to create playlists

How about adding a possibility of creating playlists? I would like to mark some texts (containing sound of course) and then play them all consequtively. Also it would be convenient to have playlists in the mobile version of LWT.

Thank you a hundred times for this awesome program!

                                      • Add the ability to see which texts a specified term is utilized

I use skritter to facilitate learning the tones and writing of chinese characters and all my learning lists in LWT are combined with skritter (chinesepod, etc). Because chinese is often contextual, on occasion a term will arise in isolation on skritter where being able to reference the broader text would be of great benefit.

Being able to search by term or romanization and receiving a list of encompassing texts would accomplish this.

LWT is an excellent program. Please accept my sincerest thanks for your time, effort and expertise in providing such an amazing platform for the rest of us!

                                        • Audio input box for each word. URL or system files.

Romanization does not exactly translate to pronunciation of the words. It's easier if I am able to link it. I can attest that even though I am in Korea, I am mispronouncing words because the intonation and the way it is pronounced is sometimes different from it's given. I am not even pronouncing based on romanization but on Korean alphabets. Sometimes a text does not come with audio but searching up the word on websites can come up with the audio needed. Simple.
Does not necessary mean we need to organise audio files on our system.
